Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a fantastic weekend.  Dad was out of town until the Saturday afternoon, so it was just me and the monsters kids.

I have a new strategy to keeping Mikayla occupied - a box of raisins.

She at a whole box while I was able to make myself a dinner Mike would never eat ...

Roasted tomato and spinach stuffed portobello mushrooms and brussell sprouts!

Saturday morning rolled around with a classic shot of Mikayla in her crib. This is what her hair looks like every other morning.

Then for some reason I felt extremely adventurous and took both the kids clothes shopping at Target and Kohls. Must have been the confidence from the raisin box - we had another two boxes Saturday morning.

We were then off to Christopher's swim class. My first time. It was so much fun seeing him play in the pool, Mikayla liked watching him too. Then surprise! Dad was home when we got back.  Christopher told Dad, "I thought about you a lot when you were gone, did you think about me?" How cute is that!!!

We then played an epic game of peek-a-boo.

BOOO!!!

I can do better!

How was that one - did I get you?

Sunday we had a play date with our friends from daycare to go sledding in our backyard. We have the perfect hill for 3 year olds.  Mikayla and her friend Chloe were so much fun to watch trying to get around in the snow. Mikayla did not want to have anything to do with the sledding.

But she did love her boots and her hat. She insisted on wearing them in the evening.  Shoo, shoo, shoo. That's what she would say.

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend we decided to start-up our Wii again. After about a billion updates Mom and Dad took turns playing with Christopher.

Here is Christopher after beating Dad at boxing, or smashing or the punching game as Christopher likes to call it.

The ever competitive Dad took it up a notch and KOed his son.

I was trying to decide whether to put Mikayla down for a nap or go run errands. I figured I would feed her lunch and then see how she was.

While I was feeding her she started squeezing her eyes shut. I could not figure out what in the world she was doing, and then ...

She fell asleep. So we took a nap. While Dad and Christopher went to swim class.

Christopher is really enjoying his swim class.

In fact, he told me last night that swim class was his favorite part of the weekend.

I told him my favorite part was when he knocked down dad in the punching game.

He agreed that was fun too, but swim class was still his favorite.

Mikayla decided that we needed to rearrange our house.

She was very determined.

Saturday night Mike and I attempted to cook our left over tomahawk steak from New Years Eve.

It still had great flavor, but our technique was a little off.

Sunday morning Dad took a nap with Christopher.

I got to watch Mikayla destroy rearrange the house some more.

Now on to zoom into our week.

The Tale of the Shovel

At the beginning of January, Christopher and I were driving through our neighborhood and someone still had their Christmas lights on. He said, "It's Christmas again, now I can get a shovel."  And then it began ...

Christopher begging for a shovel all the time. It was pretty amusing. But, all he would talk about is how he wanted a shovel.

So, after a morning when I was running late and rushing the kids around, I realized Christopher was being such a great helper and good listener.  I decided I wanted to do something to make him happy. I immediately thought it was time to go on a shovel hunt.

A couple of weeks passed and we had not found the shovel.  So we took a family trip to Home Depot and found Christopher a shovel. I wish I would have had my phone ready to capture the excitement and dance Christopher did when he found his perfectly sized, red shovel.

The day was made even better because we had got just enough snow the night before for him to shovel. And boy did he shovel. He was such a big help ...

To his Mom, as we shoveled together. Now, he has stated a watch would make him really happy and that he really, really, really, really wants a skateboard for his birthday.  I think I have unleashed a monster :)

Two for one Weekend Wrap-Up

So, this is technically a three weekend wrap-up.  Life's been busy, but we've been having a ball ...

I'm so funny. I can't help it. It's in my genes, just ask my Dad.

Christopher finished up his basketball. He had a blast, but he has realy been enjoying his swimming classes. You'll notice there are no pictures, because Dad has been taking him.

Mikayla, is still running the show. She has decided that her shopping cart is much better used to climb, sit and stand in.

Even after this little fall, she just got right back in. Sometimes I wonder if she is one of those kids that has trouble feeling pain. She rarely get's upset when she falls or bumps her head.

Christopher's new favorite thing is salsa and chips. Who knew.

Mikayla loves to climb. So I let her climb on our end tables and leave her there. She can't get herslef down, so it at least gives a 5 minute break from chasing her around.

I have trouble telling Christopher no to something I openly allow his sister to do.

Guarntee next week this will be Mikayla.

Awww. A few minutes of rest.

Reason 256,678 that I love our daycare

Choosing a daycare is not an easy task. It's hard to tell what it's like all day long and teacher turnover is pretty common.  When Mike and I decided to go to change daycare's we were pretty nervous.  I have to say we have never looked back and our new daycare has really changed our lives.

It seems crazy that a daycare can do that. But it has built such a community for us. We go to so many birthday parties that we never would have gone to at our old daycare.

We also get do fun things like transform Christopher's classroom into a winter wonderland.

It's the little things that really make a big difference.
