Two weeks and I'm already slow posting ...

I had wanted to post pictures of Christopher's new room last Monday, but a call from the daycare at 8:30 a.m. that Christopher had the stomach flu has preoccupied Mike and I all last week. Mike and I had to juggle staying home and working the entire week. I thought he was all better on Wednesday and gave him some milk - big mistake he stayed sick until Friday. He's all better now and back to daycare today. On to more fun things: Christopher's big boy room!

We don't have him sleeping in his room yet, but he does call it his room and likes to go in and play a little, but he still spends the majority of his time in our room because that is where the TV is.

A monumental day for us

Christopher ATE spaghetti. This is huge for us! Christopher has been a picky eater since he was 4 months old and refused rice cereal. His meals for the last year have consisted of crackers, chicken sticks, fish sticks, cheese, pancakes, yogurt or bacon - he loves bacon. He has a major aversion to any food that is wet, mushy or slimy.

Mike and I decided to try a new method of introducing foods to Christopher after Monday night when I put a small (less than a square inch) piece of lasagna noodle on his plate next to his chicken sticks and he had a complete meltdown. So, I thought maybe if Christopher saw his dad and me eat it might encourage him to eat different foods.

Well, Tuesday night we did this and had grilled chicken and rice. He wouldn't touch it. He played with it with his fork, but when a piece of rice got on his hand you would have thought it was acid burning through the skin. So we sent him to bed without dinner. This was not easy, but kids are smart and when he asked for his chicken if I would have given it to him he would know he could just wait it out and I would give him what he wanted later.

Day two we had spaghetti. And to Mike and my amazement we watched him eat it right away. This is the first time we have witnessed our soon touch a noodle. I had heard rumors at daycare that he would occasionally eat noodles, but never seen it with my own eyes. We were astonished. I'm just hoping this is progress and not a fluke.

So it's leftover spaghetti again tonight and I'm hoping he'll devour it again!

A small miracle at our house

Mike and I painted Christopher's "big boy" bedroom during nap time - two coats! I'm still kind of shocked that we were able to do this.

We weren't in any hurry to prepare or paint Christopher's "big boy" room, but I am slightly neurotic about preparing and planning and had been on the look out for good deals on furniture. A couple of weekends ago we found a great deal and here we are getting ready for it to be delivered next weekend.

We planned on prepping the room before nap and maybe getting one coat done, but all of Christopher's help must have wore him out because we were able to finish with just enough time before he woke up.

When I started taping I thought for sure he would come around behind me and pull off the tape, but he actually was very serious about putting the tape on the walls.

Mike painting in a frenzy so that he could go out with his friends to watch the UFC fight instead of painting when Christopher went to bed.

Christopher also helped us remove all the tape too. As you can see he takes his jobs very seriously. I hope he is always this helpful :)

Family Pictures ...

So here is our family picture from Easter. This is our first family picture since September. We're terrible at remembering to take pictures. We're also out of practice. I don't really like this picture but out of the 10 we took this is the best one of all of his - Mike might not agree, but I'm the one posting :).

I am excited though because tomorrow we have a photo shoot with our photographer that took maternity, new born and 1st birthday pictures. I got an e-mail from her stating that she was looking to do some free mini sessions with some new equipment she got. The timing was perfect because we had just been debating whether or not we were going to get pictures for Christopher's second birthday. So, I'm sure we'll end up spending a fortune on buying prints, but I can't wait to get some better family pictures and pictures of Christopher. Below are some of the pictures she has taken for us before.

Choosing a daycare ...

Mike and I have decided to start looking for new daycares for Christopher. We've never been overly disappointed by our current daycare, but never blown away either. I guess it was the letter that we have a $75 registration fee due by April 27th that gave me the motivation to start looking at other daycare options ... or the fact that they may or may not have painted Christopher's toenails during an art project.

This time around it's a lot harder to make a decision. I don't know if it's the impending change or that we know what to expect from daycares now. We've narrowed it down to two places, a daycare center and a church run daycare facility. There are pros and cons to both, but we are still having trouble making the decision. So today during lunch, we're stopping by the daycare center to see it in action. Hopefully, this will help make our decision a little easier.
